I love Ruby for the fact that the show has resisted every opportunity to make her naive. She is idealistic, she is earnest, she is optimistic, she is ceaselessly compassionate and a dumber show would extrapolate from there that she must be foolish or ignorant. Ruby isn't those things though, she is cunning, shrewd and decisive, a born leader. A collection of things we are told people (especially young girls) cannot be all at once. All that and she can still absolutely mess you up if you give her a good reason.
